Like most people, you'll want your flooring to look great and perform well for a long time. Therefore, proper vacuuming is crucial to carpet care.
It might seem basic, but, surprisingly, many don't vacuum correctly. So, here are some tips for keeping your rug in top shape.
How often should you vacuum your carpet?
Generally, carpets are vacuumed at least twice a week. But, of course, you may do it more often, depending on lifestyle and foot traffic.
You may also break it up a bit. For example, some people vacuum the heaviest traffic areas twice a week, but the rest once a week.
There's no such thing as vacuuming too often. Just be sure to remove beater bars (Rotating agitator bars) and use the proper height setting for your carpet installation.
Too low, and it can damage either the carpet or the belt drive. Too high, and it won't pick up as well.
An excellent way to check for the correct setting is to turn the vacuum on at the highest and lower it until you can feel it pulling at the rug.
Why it’s important
The dirt and soil are sharp. However, it can fray fibers and dull and mat the rug.
